An update on our work to tackle serious and organised crime in the east of Birmingham |

Dear Resident,
We wanted to let you know about the work we've been doing to step up our fight against serious and organised crime in Birmingham.
Weeks of action from our gangs, firearms and investigation teams has seen disruption of arrests of those involved in major criminality.
Hundreds of hours of work have gone into extra patrols, warrants, searches and intelligence gathering as we work 24/7 to make the community safer.
We’ve also worked with partners to disrupt criminals using the road network, by pulling over uninsured vehicles and those with illegal tints, which are often linked to wider criminality.
Since August, the work has seen a loaded revolver recovered, along with six bullets, 15 shotgun cartridges, as well as multiple zombie knives, blades and bats.
We’ve made 25 arrests for offences including firearms possession, offensive weapons, drug dealing and more, as we focus on making communities safer in areas including Stechford, Bordesley Green, Alum Rock and Washwood Heath.
We’ve carried out 65 searches, and in one 10-day period alone, our gangs team gathered more than 100 pieces of intelligence.
We’ve also recovered £20,000 worth of Class A and B drugs.
Det Ch Insp Francis Nock, from Birmingham’s Proactive Crime team, said: “This is about making life as hard as possible for criminals who live and operate in these areas.
“In response to concerns from the community, we’ve stepped up our enforcement, intelligence gathering and other work in the area to take out key individuals and seize the tools of their trade including guns, weapons and drugs.
“We’ve been using Section 60 powers in parts of the city to give us extra powers to stop and search people, and the feedback we’ve had from the community has been positive.
“Criminals operating in Birmingham should be under no illusion. We are using all our resources and powers to investigate, disrupt and arrest them to put a stop to their activity which is so often linked to misery and violence which blights communities and causes misery for law-abiding residents.”
